Milwaukee Man Acquitted In Misguided Marijuana Arrest
Not Guilty
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Charges: Possession of Marijuana
Verdict: Not guilty
Timeline: One year, October 2010
Case Breakdown
A 23-year-old male on the East Side of Milwaukee was arrested after police detained him on suspicion of possession of illegal drugs. At the time, police were in search of a man walking down the streets brandishing a long gun. The client was stopped and searched despite clearly not being in possession of a long gun and not fitting the description of the individual. The client was found with marijuana in his possession. At trial, our attorney, Kerri Cleghorn, argued that the police had no reason to stop him or search him, especially while they were supposed to be looking for a dangerous individual with a gun. The jury agreed and found him not guilty. Attorney Cleghorn was the second attorney on that case after the first attorney insisted that he enter a guilty plea. The matter took approximately one year.
